Sri Sammed Shikhar

The sacred mountain as seen while trekking up for Darshan.

The Parasnath Tonk : Lord Parasnath attained the salvation here. Higest peak of the Sammed Shikhar.

Pilgrims seen going to another tonk for the Darshan. They are on their way to finish the Vandana as they are nearing the parasnath tonk. After the parasnath tonk, the descend (3 hour journey to the base town "Madhuban") starts.

Sammed Shikhar is one of the holiest places for the Jain Community. It is an heavenly abode for 20 Tirthankara. Out of 24 Tirthankara, 20 have attained Nirvana (Salvation) from this place. It is a common belief among the jains that if a pilgrim visits Sri Sammed Shikhar, the individual starts his journey towards complete salvation.

To reach Sammed Shikhar, you need to reach Parasnath Station (around 100 kms from Gaya Station). Sammed Shikharji is around 20 kms from Parasnath Station. The base camp of this Sammed Shikhar is called "Madhuban". To reach Madhuban, you need to hire a Auto Rickshaw or a private vehicle. You should not be paying more than 20 Rupees a seat to travel to Madhuban. You can very well share the auto/vehicle. The complete 16 seater vehicle should not charge you more than 400 Rs. Be careful in dealing with the travel operators as they tend to charge more depending upon knowing the financial ebullience of the pilgrims.
